Principal's Message
Step into a world of discovery at Stone Creek Elementary, where innovation meets education in our vibrant learning community. Our dedicated team of 60 educators nurtures the potential of approximately 440 young minds (from Early Childhood through 5th grade) in a space designed for both inspiration and security.
As we approach our sixth year in this thoughtfully constructed 82,000-square-foot facility, we continue to prioritize both academic, social development and student safety.
Our curriculum extends beyond traditional classroom learning, inviting students to explore their passions through specialized Explore, Music, PE and STEAM classes. We balance academic growth with physical well-being through our schedule that includes 20 minutes for lunch, 20 minutes of recess, plus an additional 15-minute recess scheduled opposite their daily specials class. We recognize each child's unique learning journey, offering targeted reading and math support based on ongoing diagnostic assessments throughout the year. For students requiring additional assistance, we provide individualized special education services and 504 accommodations tailored to each student’s need.
A Little About Me
I attended Fort Hays State University and graduated from Wichita State University. I earned my Masters from Baker University and completed my district level certification from Pitt State University.
I have worked in the Derby school district as a Building Principal since 2013. Prior to working in Derby, I was the principal in USD 396 Douglass for five years. I have two boys, Treyton and Tate. They attended Derby schools and are now off to college, Logan University and Friends University, respectively.
As a building leader, I enjoy working with staff members and parents to hear how we can improve our system. I believe that through shared partnerships, we can team up to help students meet their potential. I encourage you to come be a part of our school community by volunteering, joining PTO, collaborating on a strategic planning committee, or working within our district!
During the school year, we will reach out about needs. Sometimes it’s as simple as sending in recyclables, while other times we need career presenters, judges or field trip chaperones. It takes a small village to make all our lessons engaging, impactful, and complete!
I promise to serve your child(ren) while they are in our care. Safety will remain a top priority in all areas. If you have any questions, please reach out by email at srusher@usd260.com or by phone at (316) 788-8555.
