Keeping students and staff safe is one of the highest priorities of Derby Public Schools. Secure entrances, School Resource Officers, storm shelters and emergency drills are just a few of the many ways that we work to keep everyone safe.
All schools also utilize a visitor management system, called SafeVisitor, to enhance school entrance security, streamline the check-in process and help us to be aware of everyone in our schools so that we can account for them in the event of an emergency.
All visitors, including families, volunteers, community partners, contractors and vendors, will be asked to present a Driver’s License or government issued ID to be scanned into the system. The information runs through the national database of registered sex offenders and local exclusion lists. The system does not make a copy of the physical ID.
All approved visitors will have a picture taken at each visit and receive a badge that must be visible at all times. Visitors return to the main office to check out at the front desk. If you do not have identification, please let the office staff know that you would like to sign in. Staff members can assist you and answer questions. The check-in process is not necessary if you are simply dropping off or picking up items from the office.
